Gas Prices Fall in NJ [AUDIO]

Gas prices are dropping in New Jersey and across the country on news of a weak jobs report last week.

While the lower pump prices are good news for consumers, the reason for them may not be. The price of oil fell in response to a dismal report from the Department of Labor that only 69,000 jobs were created last month, the smallest gain this year.

“We’re probably going to get down to where we are going to see prices around $3.00 to $3.25 in this state very soon” said Tom Kloza, chief analyst at the Oil Price Information Service in Wall Township.

Kloza said a frightening jobs report last week and easing tensions in the Middle East pushed oil prices lower resulting in a four-cent drop in just a week.  “So this is good news right before school gets out, maybe some motorists will decide to take a longer trip this summer and really travel.”

Drivers say it doesn’t matter why the prices dropped, its a welcome sight at the pump.

“I love seeing them go down, I wish they would go down more” said one man filling up in Toms River.

“My truck still costs a lot to fill, so even though prices are lower, I can only put about $20 in” said another man from Manchester.

“If the prices keep dropping, I will definitely be taking a trip to Florida or something” said a woman from Brick.

A year ago a gallon of gas cost $3.93.  This is the eighth straight week prices have fallen in New Jersey.
