A serious accident that sent four people to the hospital closed the Garden State Parkway southbound for a time on Sunday morning and caused delays into the afternoon.

The crash between #114 (Middletown) and #109 (Red Bank) in the local lanes blocked a lane while police conducted an investigation. Combined with other accidents delay were back to Laurence Harbor.

State police say a car hit a guardrail on the right shoulder near milemarker 110.8 in Middletown Township.

 
Two backseat passengers, 60-year-old Meghana Kadu and 59-year-old Ravindranath Kadu, both of Jersey City, were seriously injured and remained hospitalized late Sunday afternoon. Ravindranath Kadu was in critical condition, while Meghana Kadu's condition was not available,

The car's driver and a front-seat passenger were being treated for minor undisclosed injuries. Their names were not released

A medical helicopter was also called to the scene.
