Gabby Douglas Turns Down Glassboro Teen’s Prom Invitation

Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas has turned down a Glassboro teen's invitation to the prom.

Leon Purvis, who asked Justin Bieber to his prom last year, posted a YouTube video invitation after seeing her interviewed by Barbara Walters as one of her "10 most fascinating people" of 2012 according to the South Jersey Times.

Douglas responded with regrets due to a scheduling conflict via her Twitter account.

Purvis is not discouraged. “Sadly, she can’t make it,” Purvis told the South Jersey Times. “But it was really nice getting a tweet directly from her. I asked her because she’s my age, she’s very down-to-earth, she’s just a great person. Plus she has a gold medal from the Olympics.” He also posted a second video thanking her for the personal reply.

Purvis also has another prom "date" in mind but isn't tipping his hand as to who it might and whether he'll ask another celebrity.
