Funeral mass today for former Barnegat Mayor

Family and friends say a final goodbye to former Barnegat Mayor Leonard Morano, Jr., at a funeral mass at 9:30 a.m. today at St. Mary's in the Township. Morano died on Thanksgiving at age 75.

The 40-year Barnegat resident worked for the Township Board of Education. He served on the Township Committee for nearly two decades, including as Deputy Mayor and Mayor. The Democrat lost re-election in 2014.

Morano was predeceased by his wife Joanne and a brother, Anthony Morano, according to his obituary. He's survived by his three children and five grandchildren.

A viewing was held Sunday at Barnegat Funeral Home.
