Each officer must raise $1,800 for the tour, according to Jackson Police Lt. Thomas Hratko and Patrolman Ralph Seda. The officers said the tour began in New Jersey in 1997 by an officer in Morris County and has grown in popularity since then. The state now has a south and central Jersey chapter and there are participants from as far away as California.

Jackson cops will be riding in honor of all fallen comrades, including the Township's own Officer Robert Ventura killed in 1991.

To support the fundraising efforts, Jackson police are holding a Dinner and Comedy night this Friday, featuring nationally-televised funnyman David Reilly. All proceeds will go to the Unity Tour riders.

The B.Y.O.B event is being held at the Jackson Mills Fire Station, 455 North County Line Road, Jackson. Doors open at 6:30.

Tickets for the event can be purchased by calling the Jackson Police Department at 732-928-1111. Details on the comedy night also are posted on the Department's facebook page.
