The investigation continues into an accident that claimed the life of  a 24-year-old man from Barnegat after his motorcycle hit a sport-utility vehicle driven by Ocean County Freeholder John "Jack" Kelly.

The incident happened Friday night at around 6:35 on Route 9 in the West Creek section of Eagleswood Township.

The New Jersey State Police at the Tuckerton Barracks continue to investigate what happened. The Ocean County Prosecutors Office confirmed the accident to WOBM News.

The victim has been identified as William Kolb, who was traveling south on Route 9, riding his 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle when it happened. Freeholder Kelly was attempting to turn into the West Creek Deli parking lot from the northbound side when the two vehicles collided.

Kolb was thrown from the bike and pronounced dead at the scene. Kelly did not suffer any injuries in the accident. According to a news release, police don't suspect any suspicious activity.

“I’m very sorry that a young man lost his life in the accident tonight,” Kelly told the Press of Atlantic City.

Kelly has been a Freeholder since 1993 and attempted a run for Congress in 2008.

Kelly, a father of five, has been a member of the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders since 1993.

According to the Freeholder website he is the  county’s director of Law and Public Safety. In that role, he oversaw the expansion of the Ocean County Police Academy.
