Freehold Police Officer Gets Probation For Shoplifting
A judge has sentenced a Freehold police officer to one year probation and fines for shoplifting flooring.
The judge also ordered Darnell Esdaile to forfeit his job on the police force.
The 47-year-old was off duty when he was arrested exiting a Home Depot store in neighboring Freehold Township without paying for laminate flooring valued at less than $500 in 2010.
Prosecutors said Esdaile used a receipt from a previous purchase to claim he had paid for the material.
Esdaile was a patrolman since 1996 and earned $99,402 a year.
