A Freehold Borough man faces murder charges for allegedly strangling his live-in girlfriend to death. Sender Neftali Villatoro Reyes, age 24, was arrested early Friday morning after police found Lucenay Fermin Gallegos's lifeless body in the third-floor apartment on Hudson Street after receiving a 911 call.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said that the couple's 3-year-old child was sleeping in an adjacent bedroom at the time of the incident.

An autopsy by the Middlesex County Assistant Medical Examiner determined Gallegos' death was caused by asphyxia due to manual strangulation and has been ruled a homicide.

Reyes is charged with first degree murder and is being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution on $1 million bail, no option to post 10 percent bail.

If convicted, Reyes faces a minimum sentence of 30 years in a New Jersey state prison without parole and a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, subject to the provisions of the "No Early Release Act". He would also be under parole supervision for five years following his release from state prison.
