Lakewood police shot and killed a fox after the animal bit a three-year-old girl walking with a sibling on 14th Street on Saturday night

When cops arrived, the fox was hanging out under a neighbor's deck and attacked them, prompting police to shoot and kill it, according to the Lakewood Scoop. The child was taken to Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood to be treated for scratches to her arm leg and lip.

“Police Officer Matt Moore found the fox under the resident’s deck and was forced to fire his duty weapon at the fox after it tried to attack him and a Lakewood Animal Control officer,” Lakewood Police Lieutenant Steve Allaire tells the Lakewood Scoop.

The fox is being tested for rabies. Lakewood Police Lieutenant Steve Allaire tells TLS, “Injuries could have been worse to the victim, but during the initial attack an unidentified male ran over and was able to kick the fox away from the child.”
