The 10th Legislative District has a new member on the team but he’s no stranger to Ocean County Residents. It’s former Toms River Councilman Gregory P. McGuckin and he will be sworn in officially as of today.

In light of the death of Alex DeCroce today’s swearing in will be a low key event.

McGuckin was elected to the Assembly post last November and is excited about the challenges that lie ahead. He takes over Jim Holzapfel’s seat, now that he’s moving into retiring Senator Andy Ciesla’s spot. He also joins Assemblyman Dave Wolfe on the slate. McGuckin says there’s lots of work to do but he’s ready. Most of the things on his mind deal directly with the economy and the struggling constituents in Ocean and Monmouth Counties.

McGuckin says “New Jersey residents are paying the highest in the nation property taxes. There’s also no reason why Ocean and Monmouth residents should be footing the bill for the North Jersey and former Abbot school districts. We have got to make it a fair system down here. We are always left off the list for federal aid or the last to get it. I want to change that.”

The longtime Toms River resident is an attorney and has his own law firm. He plans to keep working at both jobs and is also the attorney for Waretown/Ocean Township.

The 10th District serves Bay Head, Brick Township, Island Heights, Lavallette, Manasquan, Mantoloking, Point Pleasant Beach, Point Pleasant Borough, Seaside Heights, Seaside Park, South Toms River and Toms River.
