A former Redbank Attorney faces theft charges on allegations of fraudulently converting Middletown property into his ownership.

The Monmouth County Prosecutors Office says 38-year-old Alexander Iler of Middletown, allegedly assumed ownership of the property for a sale price of $575,000 in December 2011 by recording a deed that contained a forged signature. Acting Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni says Ilyer subsequently encumbered the real estate with multiple mortgages.

Ilyer was arrested today and remanded to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in lieu of a $250,000 bail, no 10%, option set by Superior Court Judge Richard W. English., J.S.C. As part of conditions of his bail he's required to surrender his passport and submit to a hearing on the source of any funds posted for bail.

If convicted, Iler faces a maximum sentence of ten years in prison. He was disbarred in July 2012.
