Former Belmar Beach Hotel co-owner is charged in connection with attempting to bribe a Belmar fire marshal, says Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni.

71 year old Gabe Baron of Galloway, is charged with second degree offer of unlawful benefit to public servant for official behavior and third degree offer of unlawful benefit to public servant for official behavior.

Baron allegedly offered to make a cash donation to a Belmar fire company in order to ward off summonses and penalties issues for his property by a municipal fire marshal. The fire marshal ended the conversation and alerted Belmar police.

If convicted of the second degree offense, Baron faces five to ten years in a New Jersey state prison. If convicted of the third degree offense, he faces three to five years.

Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Lawrence Nelsen is assigned the case.

Charges are accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until, found guilty in a court of law.
