A Monmouth County man who once held season tickets for the New York Giants will now have to watch the next five seasons in prison after pleading guilty to one count of theft by deception.

John Gorman, 49, of Matawan, had attempted to withdraw his guilty plea before he was sentenced this past Friday, but his request was denied by Ocean County Judge Patricia B. roe. He had admitted in May 2016 that he had used the promise of personal seat licenses (PSL) for the Giant's new stadium in order to take thousands of dollars from his victims.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said an investigation showed that from November 2008 until July 2010, Gorman told people he had 28 personal seat licenses to sell for the new stadium and offering to sell them on Craigslist. The PSL is a one-time fee for season ticket holders, but does not include the price of tickets for the games.

Gorman, the prosecutor said, would then meet people interested in the seats and showed them documentation for the PSLs he had for sale. Gramiccioni said the scam continued even after he was warned by the Giants that he could only buy two of the licenses.

The investigation also showed that Gorman had taken advantage of the fact that he shared the same name as the Giant's director of ticketing,  and had led some of his victims to believe that he was employed by the team. The victims paid Gorman the money but never received tickets for the 2010 season.

In addition to the prison time, Gorman was also ordered to pay $116,550 to his 16 victims in restitution.
