Following Paris attacks, Giants game opens with added security, moment of silence

Following warnings that security would be much tighter at MetLife Stadium Sunday afternoon for the New York Giants' game against the New England Patriots, entering the stadium was similar to other games so far this season, although there was reportedly an increased police presence as the large crowd filtered through the gates.

Many NFL teams announced plans for heightened security in the wake of the Paris attacks. Fans entering MetLife Stadium for the 4:15 p.m. Giants game passed through metal detectors and security checkpoints.

The game between the 5-0 Giants and the 8-0 Patriots began with a moment of silence in memory of those killed in the Paris attacks Friday.

The increased security plans were not based on any specific threat to the stadium, but rather as a precaution.

“Although there are no credible threats at this time, we have increased the number of troopers working this week’s game. We are also learning more about the tactics used in the Paris attacks and are using that information to make our plans better,” wrote MetLife Stadium on their website.
