Florida senior survives horrific crash in Manchester

A senior citizen from Florida struggles to recover after being trapped inside her overturned car this morning in Manchester.

Kathleen Hayes-Horohoe, 80, of Bradenton, was pinned inside, and needed extrication from the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu that careened off Ridge Avenue at Ridgeway Boulevard at about 7:34 AM Tuesday, township police said.

Investigators in a preliminary probe determined that the car was westbound on Ridge when it veered, hit a bush, climbed an embankment and rammed a tree before flipping onto the driver's side.

Hayes-Horohoe complained of chest pains and was rushed by township first-aiders to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where she was listed in stable condition, police said.

Rescue and cleanup required closure of the road for several hours. Part of the cleanup involved removing the tree to prevent the possibility that it would fall and hit electrical wires, police said.
