Florence High School Baseball Coach Calls Attention To Biting Incident “Garbage”

The coach of the Florence High School baseball team says all the attention being given to a biting incident involving several players is “garbage.”

“We played a great game despite all the garbage,” coach Joseph Frappolli Jr. told the Times of Trenton.  “Every time there’s an incident there are a thousand stories out there. It’s tough enough to come down here and win a rivalry game like this one without the other stuff going on. We are trying to move forward and win some games.”

The team got some major league attention in its game with Riverside as many reporters came to the game and helicopters whirred in the sky after reports surfaced of four players holding down a sub-varsity player and biting him multiple times as part of a hazing ritual on school grounds just before the school’s spring break according to the Times.

Frappolli was apparently unaware of the biting incident according to Florence Township Schools Superintendent, Donna Ambrosius; nor were town officials or police according to WCAU.

Many students and faculty felt the incident was being blown out of proportion. One student called the ritual badgering. “It’s a hazing thing and it’s been around for a long time,” one student told WCAU TV.

Ambrosius read a short statement regarding the incident.  “As a result of the investigation, our findings were that a small group of players acted in an inappropriate manner. Disciplinary action has been taken for those involved per the school district code of conduct,” said Ambrosius according to WPVI TV which reports she refused to answer further questions.

The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office says it is not involved in any investigation.
