Flags fly half-staff in Lakewood in memory of a murdered police officer
Lakewood Mayor Menashe Miller has ordered all flags to fly at half staff in honor of Township Police Officer Christopher Matlosz, fatally shot at close ranger five years ago today while on duty.
"Law and order is the very basis and fabric of any society. Harming or shooting of a law enforcement official is waging war on the entire population," Miller told The Lakewood Scoop.
Matlosz was in his patrol car on January 14, 2011 when he pulled up to talk with a suspect. The suspect opened fire, killing Matlosz before he could reach his gun.
Jahmell Crockham was found guilty of murdering Matlosz and is serving a life sentence. He was 19 when he committed the crime.
