A smoky early-morning in the basement of a Jackson home is traced to malfunctioning electrical equipment attached to a fish tank.

According to information on the Jackson Fire Safety Facebook page, the blaze that was reported at about 6:00 AM on New Hampshire Avenue generated a general alarm for all township fire companies.

Dwellers inside the house detected the odor of smoke and quickly left without injury, authorities said.

Fire officials did not identify the occupants.

Firefighters from Station 55 were first on scene and quickly quelled the smoke and flames with two hand lines to the front and basement entrances, authorities said.

No firefighters were said to have been injured, and the occupants were given help by the American Red Cross, authorities said.
