As we told you last week, O.C.E.A.N. Inc. is working to build villages of tiny homes to help house the homeless in Ocean County and beyond.

The first step was to build a model tiny home on the campus of Ocean County College.  With that complete, President and CEO Ted Gooding is now working to find land where the villages can be built.

"We own some land in Barnegat, we're actually looking at acquiring some land farther south," Gooding said.  "We've already got a map for Atlantic City in which we've met with their officials and they've told us the land that they own that might be eligible for this."

Gooding says the tiny homes are ideal for city-owned lots that are too small for traditional housing, of which Atlantic City has several.  He's also spoken to officials in Cape May County about locating a village there.

Gooding says he has plans in place for financing the construction and obtaining any necessary variances and waivers.  Now all he has to do is get municipal leaders on board.

"I think this concept fits in anybody's community," Gooding said.  "It's not ugly, it's not obtrusive, and it's very functional."

If you'd like to check out the model tiny home at Ocean County College, it's located at Building 40, Lot #2.
