51-year-old Steven Sheerer of Barnegat is the father of the 25-year-old Steven M. Sheerer, also of Barnegat, accused of sending sexually explicit photos online to comedian Rosie O'Donnell's teen daughter last month, confirmed Stafford Police Officer Christopher Fritz to NJ Advance Media.

The elder Sheerer was charged on August 25 with Hindering Apprehension and Conspiracy to Commit Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance following a seven-month undercover investigation, according to Fritz in a news release Thursday.

Authorities determined Sheerer became aware of a drug-trafficking operation run by Dennis Ayala, who allegedly was ordering Anabolic Steroids online and then having them mailed via the Postal Service to his business, Shore Discount Furniture and Bedding/Shore Gold and Pawn on East Bay Avenue in Stafford. Sheerer alerted Ayala that his address had been flagged for suspicion of illegal activity, according to Fritz.

Ayala was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose, Pawnbroker Selling Firearms, and Possession of Anabolic Steroids.

The investigation is ongoing, and Fritz is urging anyone with information to contact Detective Stephen Fessler at 609-597-1189 ext. 8447.
