40-year-old Matthew Hockenbury of Elizabeth slammed his 2007 Harley Davidson into the back of a construction truck, that authorities said may have pulled into traffic from the center median, based on a preliminary investigation. Hockenbury then collided with a Toyota Scion.

The crash happened in the southbound lanes just before exit 98 around 10 p.m.

The Lakewood Scoop initially reported the motorcycle rear-ended a van and triggered seven other vehicles to collide.
No other injuries were reported according to the Asbury Park Press. Hockenbury's body was taken to CentraState Hospital in Freehold.
State police have taken the construction vehicle to be investigated at the Herbertsville commercial vehicle inspection station. No charges have been filed at this time, pending the investigation.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, Wall Township EMS and other emergency personnel also responded to the scene.
