New Jersey will continue to ride the roller coaster of fall this week, with two (minimal) chances of precipitation through next weekend.

Here are your weather headlines for Monday, November 7, 2016...

Fair weather for now

We're coming off a beautiful fall weekend, as thermometers bumped into the 60s for at least part of New Jersey on both Saturday and Sunday. The week ahead will feature a few cooler days, a few warmer days, and a couple of minimal rain chances.

Monday will be cooler than Sunday, by a few degrees, but still pretty close to seasonal normals. Highs will reach the mid to upper 50s across the Garden State. As an area of high pressure passes nearly overhead, skies should remain sunny and blue. The only exception could be along the immediate coast, where a few clouds may creep into the sky at some point Monday.

Monday night will be chilly, with most lows in the 30s. Isolated spots may fall to (or just below) the freezing mark, with a frost likely for at least half of NJ.

Tuesday is Election Day, and I don't anticipate any weather-related issued for New Jersey voters. It will be the warmest day of the week, with highs in the mid 80s. We'll enjoy dry, mostly to partly sunny skies.

First shot at rain: Wednesday

By Wednesday morning, an approaching cold front will noticeably cause clouds to increase to mostly cloudy or overcast. There will be a chance of rain from this front - but the atmosphere won't have much moisture to work with. So it certainly will not be a drought-buster, just scattered showers at best. While Wednesday may feel wet for a time, rainfall totals will be meager. I'd be impressed if we see a widespread quarter-inch.

On Thursday, behind the front, skies will return to sunshine. But temperatures will be noticeably chilly, with highs only around 50 degrees.

Second shot at rain: Friday night

Friday daytime looks OK, with a mix of sun and clouds and highs near 60. Good news for the multitude of Veterans' Day festivities across the state. Meanwhile, we will be watching our next front carefully, which looks stronger, but drier. That means the rain chances will be lower, but the pool of cool air that we experience next weekend will be more than noticeable!

Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if this frontal passage is completely dry for New Jersey. A few sprinkles will be possible from Friday night to Saturday morning. Mostly rain, although there could be a few snowflakes in North Jersey if the precipitation is still ongoing when subfreezing temperatures arrive.

The bigger result of this late-week front will be a pretty cold weekend. Highs on Saturday and Sunday will struggle to make it to 50 degrees, with a persistent wind keeping things blustery. It's beginning to feel a lot like November...
