Facebook Helps Barnegat Police Catch Another Suspect
Social media helps Barnegat police catch a suspected debit card thief. Police say 26-year-old Charles Parkhill III, turned himself in shortly after an image of him purchasing an item at a Route 9 liquor store was posted on Facebook.
Township police say they began receiving calls from concerned citizens identifying Parkhill as the suspect soon after the photo was posted. Parkhill is charged with computer criminal activity and theft of lost property (3rd degree crimes).He was processed and released pending a court date.
Lieutenant Keith Germain says this case marks the fourth time that they sought the community’s assistance in identifying a suspect via Facebook. In each case, the suspect was successfully identified by a concerned citizen who saw the Facebook posting.
Police say they appreciate the support and assistance provided by residents who continue to be valued partners in the shared pursuit of keeping the community safe.
