I haven’t written much about wintry things this season because we haven’t had much of a winter.  But today’s weather forecast inspired me to share what I’ve learned about Hygge.

It’s a Danish concept (commonly pronounced Hoo-guh) that seems to be catching on around the world.  “The Little Book of Hygge” has become a New York Times Bestseller.  https://www.amazon.com/Little-Book-Hygge-Danish-Secrets/dp/0062658808

Instead of being bummed out during the winter, Hygge helps us embrace it. It’s about sipping some hot tea or cocoa on a cold night like tonight.   It’s about wrapping a soft knit shawl or blanket around you.  It’s about spending quality time with family and friends.  And you know your favorite old sweater and those socks that make you smile?  You are encouraged to wear them as you cozy up in a comfy chair.

Some key elements of adding Hygge to your home are:  candles, coziness, comfort food, and creating moments to just enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

I’ve always enjoyed cups of hot tea on days like today.  Maybe later I’ll have some while I read.  By candlelight,

What parts of Hygge do you like?  Are there some Hygge-style things that you’re already doing?
