It was a sad day for a popular Jersey Shore sub shop in Bayville after Emergency Crews were called in to put out a three-alarm fire at Richards Sub World and Deli on Tuesday afternoon.

Two firefighters were in need of medical attention by emergency crews, with one suffering from heat exhaustion and the other with an undisclosed minor injury.

The business which has been open since the 1970's, was unoccupied at the time and no other injuries have been reported but details are minimal with the investigation at this time.

The cause of the blaze is unknown.

"I want to thank our volunteers and police department for a job well done," said Berkeley Township Mayor Carmen Amato. "Being a life Long resident I've frequented Richards For decades. I'm am saddened by this. My thoughts and best wishes go to owners Richard and Robin and the entire Richards Sub World Family."

The Bayville EMS reported on Facebook their presence at the fire on Tuesday and crredited working with the Bayville Volunteer Fire Dept, along with Pinewald Pioneer Fire Co.Manitou Park Volunteer Fire CompanyForked River Volunteer Fire DepartmentOcean County Sheriff 911Berkeley Township Police Department, Ocean County Fire Coordinators, Ocean County Fire Marshalls and some other agencies, whom all did a great job extinguishing the fire and working as a team to keep the scene and all parties involved safe and hydrated.
