UPDATE: A fire the engulfed part of a playground at Newbury School in Howell Township has been put out, but what cause it remains unknown.

The Southard Fire Dept and Freewood Acres Fire Company arrived at Newbury School for a small mulch fire around 11:04 am, SFD said on Facebook.

A large fire had consumed the mulch and playground equipment.

"Engine 19-3-77 dropped a supply line and began extinguishing the blaze with foam."

The Howell Township Fire Bureau and Howell Board Of Education were called to the scene.

Howell Township Police and Southard Fire Department Number One are on the scene at Newbury School for a fire that's consumed the playground.

What caused the flames to erupt is not yet known and no injuries are being reported

Howell Police and Howell Fire Bureau will be investigating.
