A heads up for Monmouth County drivers next week, the East End Avenue bridge between Neptune and Neptune City over Shark River will be closed from 7:00 am until 5:00 pm on Wednesday August 15 for paving.

The reason why?

Freeholder Director Tom Arnone says an inspection by county engineers found defects in the pavement surface put in by the contractor.

"Shortly after the pavement was installed by the contractor, County Engineers performed an inspection that found defects in the pavement surface," Arnone, liaison to the Department of Public Works and Engineering, said. "After witnessing this myself and getting questions from local residents, it was my plan to bring all parties together to remediate and correct this issue.

I have worked with County Engineers to construct a remediation plan to have the contractor correct the unacceptable work," Arnone continued. "We apologize for the inconvenience to our residents, but Monmouth County will not tolerate substandard work."

The project, which was funded primarily through the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund, was originally completed by State Line Construction Company of Newark, NJ.
