Township police say that Ronald "Wise" Worthy, 46, tried to grab a patrolman's holstered gun during a struggle near the Rodeway Motel on Route 37 on May 5.

According to police, investigators sent to the inn on a report of narcotics distribution began on-site surveillance and continued it on wheels after Worthy entered a car.

The car, driven by Kenneth Bragg, 49, of Howell, was stopped a short time later for a road violation, police said.

Officers searching the vehicle found various amounts of heroin, crack cocaine and marijuana, police said, leading to the altercation.

Worthy faces ten counts related to drug possession and the alleged fight. He's in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, with bail set at $250,000 and no option for release on payment of 10 percent.

Bragg was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and was released on a summons while his car was impounded, police said.
