Those are among the accusations filed by police against Frank Ferrara, 31, related to the crash that sent a 15-year-old girl in one car for hospitalization.

Ferrara is charged with evidence tampering, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, causing serious bodily injury while driving with a suspended license, and assault by auto. He was placed in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, with bail set at $50,000, payable in full.

The crash occurred at about 3:49 PM on April 26, according to information from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Facebook page. Ferrara failed to acknowledge stopped traffic ahead of his 1997 Acura on eastbound Route 88, plowing it into a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze near the intersection of Jack Martin Boulevard, authorities said. The impact set off a chain collision.

At the crash site, Brick Township police said they watched Ferrara entering and exiting his car in an attempt to ditch suspected narcotics. Ferrara showed signs of impairment, and several wax folds of the type used to hold narcotics were found strewn around the Acura along with syringes, authorities said.

Ferrara was driven to Ocean Medical Center in Brick, where officers obtained a telephonic search warrant for a blood sample.

All passengers in the Cruze wore seat restraints, but Kimberly Ferlisi, 15, sustained head and neck injuries serious enough to warrant treatment at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Two other passengers were treated for minor injuries at Ocean Medical Center in Brick, and the driver refused medical attention, authorities said.

The impact catapulted the Cruze forward into a 2014 Jeep Cherokee driven by David Bertone of Brick Township. Neither he nor his passenger, Thomas Barten of Brick, complained of injury and his Jeep remained driveable.

However, the force of the impact sent his Jeep forward into a 2000 Honda Civic driven by Sandra Herrera-Perez of Brick. None of the four occupants requested medical attention and she was able to drive from the spot, police said.
