Driver Hospitalized after Manchester Crash

A hair-raising crash in the middle of the night in Manchester leaves a driver from Browns Mills in stable condition.

Jeffrey Byrne, 35, was eastbound on Route 70 in the township's quiet rural area near mile marker 35 when his 2007 GMC pickup careened out of control around 1:30 AM Friday, police said.

Investigators determined that Byrne's truck hit a guardrail and several trees before sailing down an embankment and into marshy underbrush below. Byrne drifted in and out of consciousness when first-responders arrived, police said.

Byrne was treated at Community Medical Center in Toms River. He sustained no broken bones or internal injuries, police said.
