Michelle Biggin, 49, was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune while Valerie Weir, 67, also of Toms River, was examined at Community Medical Center in Toms River.

According to police, Biggin was motoring her 1998 Toyota Camry southbound toward the intersection of Commonwealth Boulevard at about 4:52 PM. Weir, in a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup, attempted a left turn across the oncoming lane.

Police say both drivers were secured by seat restraints and airbags deployed in both vehicles. They did not elaborate on the nature or extent of Biggins's injuries, but said that Weir complained of head and neck pain.

Police also did not indicate the general speed of traffic at the time of the crash, or the status of the overhead traffic signal.

Aiding the drivers and police were MONOC paramedics, first-aiders from the township and from Quality Medical Transport, and firefighters from the Manchester and Ridgeway squads.

Patrolman Antonio Ellis of the traffic safety unit is conducting a followup investigation.
