As Puerto Rico continues to reel from the unprecedented destruction of Hurricane Maria, in addition to the humans who so badly need help, there are also many cats and dogs in need as well.

The Asbury Park Press reports that St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center in Madison (Morris County) has already taken in nearly 100 cats and dogs who need to be processed to eventually head toward adoption.

While the beloved pets of many Puerto Ricans remain on the island amid efforts to reunite them with their families, a St. Hubert's official points out that the animals who have arrived in the Garden State, "...are not pets that people will be looking for".

They all need to go through thorough health checks before being moved to Humane Societies and other shelters and adoption programs, but you can stay up to date with the latest on the St. Hubert's Facebook page by clicking here.
