After watching Chris Christie’s appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon this week I’m convinced of two things.

Our governor will at some point in the very near future announce he’s running for President and reports of his political demise may be greatly exaggerated.  As one who counted him out only a couple of months ago I must admit that feeling might have been a bit premature.

Christie doesn’t play well in his home state of New Jersey but he is a drastic change from the usual run-of-the-mill politicians, especially on the Republican side of the aisle. Clearly he will be an underdog but personality carries a lot of weight in national elections and he’s got plenty of that….personality that is!

In what has to be considered a bit of a surprise and a very good move for their men’s college basketball program Georgian Court University is expected to name Brian Reese their new coach on Monday.  According to the Asbury Park Press, Reese is leaving Monmouth University after four seasons as an assistant to King Rice, who was also his teammate at the University of North Carolina.

Georgian Court went 7-45 in its first two seasons of men’s basketball under Enrico Mastroianni.  The Lions compete in the Central Collegiate Athletic Conference with the likes of the University of the Sciences, Philadelphia University and Holy Family who all posted 20-win seasons this year.

Some athletic milestones this week at Southern Regional High School as lacrosse player Lisa Stango scored her 100th career goal in a win over Toms River East Wednesday.  Earlier in the month boys lacrosse standout Shawn McManus reached the 100-goal mark in his Rams career.

Speaking of 100, Southern Track & Field coach Brian Zatorski collected that milestone victory in his coaching career following a recent win over Jackson Memorial.

The Shore Football Coaches Foundation will hold their annual breakfast banquet Sunday to honor the top senior student-athletes and introduce players and coaches taking part in this summer’s U.S. Army All Shore Gridiron Classic.  Two players from each shore school who stood out in the classroom will be saluted at the breakfast, which is sponsored in part by Barnabas Health and their Matthew J. Morahan Assessment Center for Athletes.  Longtime Montclair State assistant coach Rich O’Connor will be the guest speaker and I will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the event which will take place at Gibbs Hall in Eatontown.
