According to Freeholder Jeff Nash, the county's Animal Shelter liaison, they were removed from the farm in an international effort to permanently end the breeding of dogs for butchering, and to move Korean farmers toward alternative ways of generating cash.

"These dogs have overcome insurmountable odds, and have traveled a great distance to find someone to provide them with the love and care they deserve," Nash said in prepared comments.

All three have been given ample time to adjust, extensive medical care and domestication training, officials said.

Joey is a one-year-old female Golden Retriever, 50 pounds, fond of playing with other dogs and with toys. She is responsive to food, apprehensive of loud noises, unsure of relationships with people and requires leash training.

Liberty is a female Siberian Husky, one to two years of age, 60 pounds, gregarious among other dogs. LIberty is a fussy eater, keeps her toys to herself, needs leash training, and cautiously accepts human touch.

Tisha is a female Tosa Inu (Japanese Mastiff), two to three years old, 60 pounds, with a fondness for people and toys and a high degree of curiosity. She behaves well on leashes, is choosy about food and is tentative around other dogs. Tisha is on pain medication for a back leg injury she incurred early in life.
