Do you love the birds ?

So do you love your backyard birds ?

Recently we completed a backyard project, so now we can relax and enjoy our backyard this Summer. One of the things we've noticed are the birds! The sights and sounds fill the backyard and I must admit its relaxing!

Cardinals, Orioles, Blue Jays and more they seem to love our neighborhood and they make themselves at home. We spotted a woodpecker recently! I think part of the reason we have this "bird sanctuary" is our neighbors. They put up a fantastic bird house/feeder that seems to attract birds from all over...including a pair of ducks who seem to love the left overs !

I don't think our backyard enjoyment makes me a "bird watcher" but many love to do that, are you a "watcher"  ? The Jersey Shore is home to a fantastic assortment of birds from the beaches to the pine barrens!

One question I have ... What type of bird is black with a stripe of red/orange and yellow on the upper wing ? It's all black except for the stripes on just a portion of the wing? We have spotted a few and would love to know...
