This time of year people line up by the droves to be scared. Haunted houses are big business as Halloween approaches.

Some people love the adrenaline rush of being spooked. There's something about being scared but knowing that nothing bad is really going to happen to you.

Some companies have even taken it a step further with "extreme haunted houses" where visitors can not only be touched, grabbed, and subjected to extreme sensory deprivation conditions, but many even require visitors to sign a waiver ahead of time.

Personally, Halloween haunted houses aren't my thing. It's not that I'm actually afraid, it's just that I've never been a fan of the standard "startle scares" that are employed as the main tactic.
