It's been seven weeks but for many, it feels like a lifetime ago.  A series of adult education courses are currently in development that will help you rebuild your home - one nail at a time.

The Adult Education Division of Ocean County Vocational Technical School (OCVTS) is offering a series of mini-courses designed to provide Ocean County homeowners with the knowledge and skills needed to understand and complete basic home repair as a result of storm damage.

They also will cover how a typical home is constructed and how to do repairs, maintenance and improvements to your home. Learn about how to work safely using basic hand and power tools, how the primary systems (plumbing, heating, air conditioning and electrical systems) work and how to maintain them, and identify problems that can lead to serious repairs.

The instruction will focus on eight areas in the home including: Interior- Framing, Sheetrock, Flooring, Trim and Painting; Window and Door - Installation, Repair and Replacement; Exterior - Roofing, Siding, Insulation, Sheathing; Crawlspace - Sealing and Dehumidification/ Foundation Repair; Mold Removal and Remediation; Plumbing; Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning; and Electrical.

Freeholder Joe Vicari says "These seminars and mini-courses will run from 6:30PM to 9:30PM for 1 to 4 nights each.  Proof of Ocean County residency required for registration."

The cost ranges from $45 to $95.  But what if you can't afford it?  Vicari says "we will work with you.  We want everyone to be able to take part in the building process and get people back in their homes.  Just contact us well in advance."
