Rice was arrested in Atlantic City last weekend, along with his fiancee, Janay Palmer, after an argument between the two at the Revel Casino turned physical, according to police reports. They were booked at city police headquarters for simple assault and domestic violence and issued summonses for a court appearance.

The NFL's personal conduct policy gives league commissioner broad authority to investigate and punish players, the Sun story notes, as happened in the case of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in 2010. He was suspended for six games after an alleged sex assault, which never resulted in criminal charges.

TMZ reports that the video it has posted is also in the possession of Atlantic City pollice and shows Rice dragging Palmer out of an elevator at the Revel just before their arrest. The website also quotes Rice's lawyer, Michael Diamondstein as saying the video, shot February 15, "is not the complete event, but is merely the end result of what transpired."
