Witnesses from across Barnegat Bay from the Snug Harbor where the conflagration unfolded told Townsquare Media about a massive smoky blaze a little after 8 AM. Within minutes, five fire companies responding to a 911 call raced to the two-story structure on Ensign Court.

The intensity was great enough, say police, to leave residual damage on an adjoining dwelling, also vacant since Sandy.

At this point it is unclear who owns either home, or where they are staying.

Police say no one was injured. Toms River Fire Companies One and Two and other volunteers from the Silverton, Pleasant Plains and East Dover stations quelled the flames.
