Damage assessments are coming in from the Midwest following yesterday's tornado outbreak.

Violent storms hit a dozen states, with Illinois taking the most severe blow. At least six people were killed in the state, while officials have confirmed two other storm-related deaths in Michigan.

One of the hardest hit towns was Washington, Ill., about 140 miles west of Chicago. The National Weather Service says it was hit by an EF-4 tornado, with winds of 170-190 miles an hour. The mayor says anywhere from 250 to 500 homes were damaged or destroyed.
