Coordinator Michele Buldo says every single one of us can be the first line of defense.

"Dispose of your medication, lock it up. Make sure you know who's coming into your house," Buldo said. "It could be a worker coming into your house and taking pills out of your medicine cabinet, you just don't know."

Buldo says that's how many addicts get prescription drugs to either use themselves or sell. At a Town Hall meeting at Ocean County College earlier this month, Assistant Ocean County Prosecutor Rory Wells pointed out that prescription drug abuse can often lead users to turn to heroin when the pills become too expensive.

The DART Coalition is also working to combat underage drinking by training bartenders to spot a fake ID. They're also on the lookout for new members.

"We have over 85 active members, we meet every other month, and we're always looking for new sectors in our community to join," Buldo said.
