Corrections officer spared jail for sex with female inmate
The Atlantic County corrections officer who admitted having sexual contact with a female inmate is ordered to serve five years of probation.
Castulo Matos, 48, of Egg Harbor City, was also banned from public-sector employment, according to Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner. His plea bargain for the fourth-degree charge of criminal sexual contact excludes any prison time.
Matos had logged 21 years on the job. He waived indictment and pleaded guilty on May 17.
Prosecutors allged that Matos had supervisory power over the victim when the incident took place on, or about, December 5, 2016, at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
She reported it on December 13, adding that Matos had passed prurient remarks to her on several occasions before the episode. authorities said.
Matos was suspended from his position while the investigation took place under the aegist of the Atlantic County Department of Public Safety, Division of Adult Detention, and the Prosecutor’s Official Corruption Unit.
