This streak of pleasant weather will continue for at least a few more days, although some rain and cooler temperatures may affect part of the upcoming Columbus Day Weekend.

Here are your weather headlines for Wednesday, October 7, 2015...

Pleasant October Weather

I'm pleased to say there are no major storm systems or other weather events on the horizon for New Jersey. That is lending to some pleasantly warm autumn days and some comfortably cool autumn nights in the weather forecast.

A blanket of clouds and higher humidity levels have made for a not-as-chilly morning today - temperatures have been mostly in the 50s across New Jersey. Satellite imagery shows clouds will likely stream through the state for much of the morning, but I think New Jersey will once again enjoy some good sunshine this afternoon. High temperatures will be very similar to Tuesday's, in the lower to mid 70s.

Meanwhile, the ocean will remain rough Wednesday, with 4 to 7 foot waves continuing along the Jersey Shore. We still have a high risk of dangerous rip currents posted too. I'm not sure why you would want to go swimming in the ocean today, but it's really a good idea to just stay on the sand...

An injection of slightly cooler air will keep temperatures a bit cooler for Thursday, in the 66° to 71° range. That's actually right around normal highs for this time of year, so Thursday should still be a decent autumn day. Winds stay light, and skies will average partly sunny throughout the day.

Friday Changes

We will see a return to above-normal temperatures on Friday, back into the 70s for most of the Garden State. As a front approaches from the west, a stiff breeze and a chance for showers and thunderstorms will be introduced to the forecast by Friday afternoon. That rainfall looks scattered and fairly light - this won't be a big, bad storm system at all. (Models put total rainfall in the 0.10" to 0.65" range across the state.) Still, the rainy weather means a wet end for the workweek, and a grey start to the upcoming holiday weekend.

The Rest of the Weekend

There remains some uncertainty about the strength and speed of the aforementioned front. Both of these factors directly impact when the wet, cloudy, breezy weather will end on Saturday. My best educated guess at this point is that the rain will clear New Jersey around sunrise on Saturday, leaving just some clouds and a brisk 20 mph wind through at least midday. Additionally, the air behind the front will be quite a bit cooler, so high temperatures on Saturday will be limited to about the lower 60s. Definitely feeling like fall!

Sun should return for the rest of the holiday weekend, and temperatures will warm up in response. Sunday's highs will be near-normal in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Columbus Day Monday is looking nice and warm, in the 70s.
