Jahmell W. Crockam of Lakewood was sentenced this morning in Ocean County Superior Court for the shooting death of Justin Williams, 20, in the township, say officials in the office of County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato.

Crockam had pleaded guilty to the Williams murder. Authorities say the sentence is mandatory as a result of Crockam's conviction for the gunshot death of Patrolman Christopher Matlosz, the first Lakewood police officer to die in the line of duty.

Investigators say Williams took five bullets to the head and one to the chest from a .22-caliber handgun. Matlosz was gunned down in his patrol car during a cursory street stop. Crockam was convicted after a lengthy trial that ended in February 2012.
