Contracted to fix up Tuckerton home, New York man misappropriates funds
There's been yet another case of sandy fraud at the Jersey Shore.
A New York man is convicted of third degree theft after being given nearly $76,000.00 to remediate a sandy damaged Tuckerton home, but performed minimal work and misappropriated about $70,000.00 of the money.
47-year old Che W. Smith of Berne, New York is set to be sentenced next month.
The investigation was conducted by Det. James Conroy of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Economic Crimes Unit.
