The familiar sounds of “Pomp and Circumstance” or “The Graduation March” will be heard on an almost daily basis over the next week as high schools in Ocean County host ceremonies for their graduating seniors.

Manchester Township High School holds its commencement exercises tonight, Central Regional, Lacey Township, Jackson Memorial, Jackson Liberty and Pinelands Regional will do so tomorrow and Friday will find high school graduations for Southern Regional, Point Pleasant Borough, Brick Township and Brick Memorial.

All three Toms River high schools hold their graduations next Monday, Lakewood High School graduates next Tuesday and Barnegat High School and Point Pleasant Beach hand out diplomas on Wednesday, June 22 to wrap up graduation season.  Here’s wishing the very best to the Class of 2016.

A pair of soon-to-be Brick Township High School graduates received a little help with college expenses on Tuesday as the latest recipients of the Jack Martin Scholarship.  Martin is likely best known for having a road in the township named after him.  At the time of his death in 1980 at the age of 93 he was the oldest living former Yankee and Phillie baseball player and shortly after that a scholarship was created in his honor.

Among those involved were Brick Township High School Athletic Director Harold Handchen and Paul Larson Sr., the founder and president of Larson Ford. The criteria then and now was that the scholarship would go to a college-bound baseball or softball player and while both Hank and Paul have passed away the tradition continues 35 years later thanks to the efforts of their sons.

Yesterday at Larson Ford on Route 88 in Lakewood, Paul Larson Jr. and Hank Handchen presented $250 scholarships to Green Dragon seniors Jake Scott and Kelsey Jones.  Jake is headed to McDaniel College where he’ll try and play baseball and football while Kelsey is expected to continue her softball career at Ocean County College.

Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School will be the site of tonight’s Shore Coaches Association Senior All-Star Boys Lacrosse game which will feature many of the top players from Ocean & Monmouth County.  Details are available at shoresportsnetwork.com
