Election Day has passed. what will be will be.  Hopefully we can somehow find a way to live up to the saying, “what unites us is greater than what divides us” which we’ve heard a lot in recent years.  Frankly most of us are starting to question if that is true.

However we do often come together during the holiday season to offer help and hope for those that need it and it does not matter what your politics are, giving is good.  With that spirit I’d like to draw your attention to a couple of efforts that deserve support because they are for the benefit of others.

I was not surprised when I learned that Carl’s Fencing, Decking and Home Improvements was holding a food drive during the month of November at their Toms River office.  Carl’s is a family-owned business who takes pride in being a positive part of the community and they have done so for decades.

Their month-long food drive will benefit a number of local charities including the Food Pantry at The House of Hope as well as the one at St. Joseph’s Church and others.  Carl’s will be collecting food donations at their office at 1579 Route 9 from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m.  Monday-Friday and 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday.  Make it a point this month to drop off non-perishable items and help provide for the many adults and children that go hungry in Ocean County every day.

A while back I mentioned a relatively new non-profit organization made up of about two dozen retired people who gather weekly in Toms River and put together packages to send to our military members overseas.

Always Supporting our Military sends food, snacks, toiletries and more to those away from home.  They are an all-volunteer group who depends on donations of the items and fundraising which goes towards postage as each package they send costs about $18 to ship.

They are holding a major fundraiser at Burger 25 on Route 37 East in Toms River today from 11am to 9pm.  The restaurant will donate 25% of all sales during that time to those who bring a copy of a special flyer OR mention Always Support our Military to the cashier.

You can print out a copy of their flyer from their Facebook page and if you have not been to Burger 25 then this is a great way to discover their awesome burgers, shakes and more.  So head over for lunch or dinner and help them in their mission to support our military.

So there you go, your politics don’t matter. All you need to do is care.
