As I’ve said before there are mornings when I stare at the computer screen wondering what I want to address in this marvelous 2 ½ minute segment with no idea. Today is one of them.

Of course since today is Columbus Day I could talk about the Italian explorer and navigator who on this day in 1492 reportedly discovered the Americas when he landed in the Bahamas, even though he thought he was in India. Just another guy who refused to ask for directions but in this case it paid off and all these years later his mistake gives a lot of people the day off and the reason to buy furniture, appliances or even a car.

I thought maybe I would talk about some of the new fall TV shows, some of which I have sitting in my DVR space. So far I like “Quantico” and “Code Black” and the jury is out on “Blood and Oil” which I don’t think is going to make it. I’ve bailed on a bunch of others because I don’t have time.

I could talk about movies but except for “Everest” and “The Intern” I haven’t seen anything very recently. We have a bunch we want to see but its football season so movie time is limited. “The Walk” is next on the list.

You know whenever I need something I could talk sports and I do feel a sense of responsibility to mention the Mets because tonight’s game against the Dodgers could be really special. For those not following the National League Division Series, the teams split a pair of games in Los Angeles over the weekend so the best-of-five series is tied at a game apiece and it moves to CitiField for the next two games.

There’s some bad blood between the teams because Saturday night Chase Utley of the Dodgers broke the right leg of Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada during a hard (and dirty) slide at second base. Utley, who we Met fans hate from his days with the Phillies was suspended two games by Major League Baseball for his late takeout slide so he might not see any action in New York. However he is appealing the suspension and that appeal might be heard before game time.

With Matt Harvey on the mound tonight will be crazy and it’s the toughest ticket to get to a Mets game in years. First pitch is 8:37 and the game is on TBS which means I have to suffer another night of listening to Ernie Johnson which is cruel and unusual punishment.

Time’s up. Happy Columbus Day. Go out and celebrate with a sausage sandwich or a cannoli.
