The imminent threat of severe coastal flooding this weekend means bringing cars away from waterfront areas to higher ground. Some Ocean County communities have arranged space.

Officials in each recommend sooner, rather than later, to bring cars to designated areas. Be sure to lock them and leave no valuables in them.

Toms River: Cars should be driven to Castle Park, North Bay Avenue at Oak Avenue. If spaces are filled, additional ones are set aside at the tennis courts near Toys R Us and the North Bay Avenue softball fields. Parking is also recommended at Veterans Park, Whitty Road at North Bay Avenue, and Silverton Park on Maine Street in the Silverton section.

Ocean Gate: High ground for parking is the field along East Cape May Avenue, between Asbury Avenue and Wildwood Avenue. If your house is a considerable distance from the field, borough police will arrange a ride home once you've parked. Reach them at 732-269-2468.

Seaside Heights: Cars should be left at the municipal lot facing Breakwater Beach, between Grant Avenue and Blaine Avenue.

Brick: Park at the Drum Point Sports Complex or either municipal Little League fields, on Tiller Lane and Lanes Mill Road.

Atlantic City: The Wave Parking Garage, Mississippi at Fairmount Avenues, is authorized to provide free overnight parking for residents and visitors from Friday, 6 PM, through Sunday. Parking is permitted from the second through top floors. The garage will be staffed overnight.

If you have concerns about your car in a flood-prone area, contact your police department's non-emergency line.

Requests for information are out to many communities. We will add more as details arrive.
