Twenty-four-year-old Christian Alfred was swimming in Wildwood around 7 p.m. Saturday when witnesses say he began to struggle in the water and then failed to resurface.

Crews then used boats and helicopters to search for Alfred throughout the night, but eventually suspended their efforts around 10 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities say Alfred is a Miami native who was attending school in New York City.
